So Disney's buying Marvel...

Wed Sep 2, 2009, 6:17 PM
Yep, that's the big news of late - The House that Mickey Built now owns the House that Spidey Built. Now, not being a big Disney nut or being a big Marvel nut, I'm not going to panic over this - large companies buy other large companies all the time, so this is no shocker.

My major concern is how much creative control Disney will have over Marvel. On the plus side, the higher-ups at Disney could move for a few editorial changes - I'd certainly not mind a few differences over at Marvel (the undoing of One More Day, an end to the Dark Reign, fewer big 'events' and so on) - and we could get some Disney properties as comics. Heck, this might just mean new Gargoyles comics from Marvel again. On the other hand, I don't want Disney meddling in every detail over at Marvel - while I've no idea about the recent Punisher film, both Iron Man and Incredible Hulk were decent films, and I'd like Marvel to maintain some creative independence when it comes to film adaptations of its characters...well, the ones they still have control over, anyway. No way are they getting the X-Men or Spidey back soon. Still, if they do more films, I'd like them to be done right, and Marvel seems to have a sane head about its films so far. If Disney insisted on all sorts of things, well...it might be bad.

So, in short, this could be very good or very bad. We'll have to wait and see.

I don't think it'll be all that bad. DC's under Warner Bros. and they've brought out some decent stuff in the past - "Batman: The Animated Series" and related, "Justice League" and "JLU", "Batman Beyond"... Of course, subjective to one's taste.

Sounds like it's a waiting game to see how they work together. Hopefully it'll fall into place and Disney won't censor the crap out of everything. Knowing them, they probably will...

We'll see. They allowed a lot of stuff with the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

I'm not arguing that those programs were good - heck, the DCAU has some of the best animated productions I've seen out of the US - I'm just concerned how the films will be effected. We'll see, I suppose.

Though truthfully, this may bode well for 'The Spectacular Spider-Man'...

That is true, but elements like blood and war will certainly be under scrutiny

And truthfully, that's not a bad thing. I don't mind mature themes, but I have a problem with gore for the sake of gore.
